Trump Follows Dr. Ben Carson as VP Rumors Heat Up

(RepublicanPress.org) – Speculation regarding Donald Trump’s running mate has topped headlines for months. He’s confirmed several top contenders but remained tight-lipped about who he might choose. Instead, the former president has suggested that he might announce his decision during the upcoming Republican National Convention, scheduled to begin in Milwaukee on July 15. A recent report indicated that Trump could favor selecting Dr. Ben Carson to join him on the ticket.

On July 5, Gateway Pundit contributor Anthony Scott reported on his X/Twitter account advising that Trump “just followed” Carson’s Truth Social account. He noted that Trump’s former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development was the only vice-presidential contender followed by the former president.

Scott also posted a screenshot of individuals Trump follows on his social media site, which listed Carson below Donald Trump Jr. At the time, the former president was only following 68 profiles. As of July 9, Trump is following 69 accounts, but it remains unclear who else he added.

Additionally, on July 6, Trump posted a statement on his Truth Social account wishing Ben and his wife, Candy Carson, a happy anniversary and referring to the couple as “spectacular people.”

A quick review of the former president’s Truth Social feed didn’t show any other mention of an individual reportedly on Trump’s shortlist for vice president. However, the timing behind Trump’s decision to follow Carson remains unclear, or its potential relevance, if any, to his campaign.

Media outlets haven’t listed Carson as a top contender for Trump’s vice-presidential pick. The shortlist includes Florida Senator Marco Rubio, North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum, South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Ohio Senator JD Vance, and Florida Representative Byron Donalds. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem had been listed in the past, but most political watchers removed her as a contender due to recent controversies.

While it remains unclear what impact Trump’s running mate might have on his chances of a November election victory, some conservative pundits emphasize Vice President Kamala Harris’s presumptive position on the Democratic ticket in light of President Biden’s poor performance during the first presidential debate.
