(RepublicanPress.org) – Former attorney Michael Cohen and his client, 45th POTUS Donald Trump, once appeared to have a close relationship. That all changed a few years ago. Trump sued his ex-lawyer for hundreds of millions of dollars. But now he’s dropped the lawsuit —- at least temporarily.
On Thursday, October 5, the former president’s attorney, Alejandro Brito, filed a one-line motion to drop the suit without prejudice. That means he is retaining the right to refile at a later date. Trump was scheduled to sit for a deposition on Monday in the suit. The Republican presidential candidate tried to reschedule the deposition for Sunday because he had a campaign rally scheduled for noon in New Hampshire, but the judge refused the request. Trump’s legal team had already rescheduled the deposition two other times.

Trump sued Choen for $500 million for allegedly breaking his company’s confidentiality agreement, maliciously spreading lies, and breaching ethical standards. POLITICO reported a spokesperson for the former POTUS issued a statement saying Trump was only dropping the suit temporarily. They continued, saying the legal team would refile after “President Trump has prevailed in dealing with the witch hunts against him.”
The spokesperson alluded to the indictments against the 45th president in New York, Georgia, and two federal courts. The statement went on to attack Cohen for his alleged “unlawful words and actions,” saying Trump would hold him accountable, just like federal prosecutors did in New York. In 2018, the ex-attorney pleaded guilty to eight federal charges, including a campaign violation for paying off women who claimed they’d had affairs with Trump during the 2016 presidential campaign.
According to POLITICO, Cohen responded to the news about Trump dropping the lawsuit by accusing the former president of being afraid to sit for a deposition. He called the case “a retaliatory intimidation tactic” and an attempt by the Republican frontrunner to hide from the discovery process. Cohen concluded his statement by saying he intended to hold his former client accountable for allegedly abusing the legal system.
