(RepublicanPress.org) – President Joe Biden has a long-standing history of stumbling over his words. “Working-class Joe,” as he likes to call himself, likes to shoot from the hip. But, unfortunately, he doesn’t appear to be using a loaded gun. Here’s a collection of five noteworthy gaffes he’s committed over the years as we say goodbye to 2021 and his disastrous first year in office.
Classic Biden Gaffes
Below is a mixture of Biden’s funniest gaffes, one old and a couple of newer ones. Fasten your seatbelts.
1. Biden’s Classic Obama Gaffe
It’s no small wonder that former President Barack Obama picked Biden as his running mate in 2008. During a 2007 campaign stop, Biden attempted to compliment fellow Democratic-hopeful by characterizing him as a “mainstream African American who [was] articulate… bright, and clean.” Yikes.
2. Biden Suggests Giving Votes to His Opponent?
Iowa climate change activist Ed Fallon and Biden bumped heads on the campaign trail in January 2020. During a Des Moines photo-op, Fallon told Biden he would vote for him in the general election, but not in the caucuses, citing Biden’s position on building pipelines. Biden told Fallon to “go vote for someone else” if he wouldn’t support the former vice president during the primary.
3. No One Is Immune
Biden had an abysmal showing in the Iowa Caucuses in early February 2020, coming in fourth place. The following week, a college student asked Biden why he thought voters should have confidence in his ability to win a national election after his poor performance.
Biden shot back, asking her if she had ever attended a caucus. When she responded in the affirmative, he called her a “lying dog-faced pony soldier,” whatever that means.
The Best of the Worst of 2021
White House staff members have done their best to keep Biden away from reporters, particularly in situations where they might ask questions. However, that’s easier said than done when it comes to shielding the President of the United States from the media’s watchful eye.
4. Biden’s Bizarre Introduction
On October 5, Biden committed one of his strangest gaffes while speaking to a group of Union workers in Howell, Michigan. Biden sang songs of praise for Michigan’s Democratic Governor, Gretchen Whitmer, at the event. However, turning to Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist, the president said he covered Whitmer “physically, and mentally, and every other way.”
5. Biden Gaffe Creates International Tension
Biden assured Chinese President Xi Jinping the United States doesn’t have a position on Taiwan’s sovereignty claim during a virtual summit meeting on November 15.
Biden referred to the disputed island as “independent” while speaking to reporters the next day. Then, he quickly walked that statement back. But it’s not like that was the only time he made similar remarks. Bloomberg reported at the time that Biden had committed a similar gaffe at least four times in recent months.
