(RepublicanPress.org) – In January 2023, Attorney General Merrick Garland appointed Robert Hur to serve as special counsel to investigate President Joe Biden’s handling of classified documents. The attorney was charged with finding out why and how such documents found their way into the president’s private office and home to see if charges against him were appropriate or not. Hur recently completed that investigation and released a report stating there would be no charges against Biden for his handling of classified documents.
The Report and Conclusion
According to the BBC, Hur published a 345-page report that was the culmination of a years-long investigation involving 173 interviews with nearly 150 witnesses. The special counsel, appointed as the chief federal law enforcement officer in Maryland by former President Donald Trump in 2017, has a wealth of experience in the field of law. He graduated from Harvard and Stanford Law School, has his own private practice, was an aide to Christopher Wray at the Department of Justice, clerked for the late Supreme Court Chief Justice William Rehnquist, and spent over 10 years as a federal prosecutor.
Hur stated in his report that, while Biden kept classified materials, he shouldn’t be charged because it would be hard to “convince a jury that they should convict him.”
Soon after the FBI discovered classified documents withheld by former President Donald Trump (R), former Vice President Mike Pence (R) and President Joe Biden (D) took it upon themselves to ensure they too, didn’t have any documents. Both the former VP and the US leader found there were classified materials that should have been returned to the archives. Pence and Biden immediately informed authorities and returned the documents to their rightful place, following the steps necessary to ensure compliance with the law. In both of their cases, investigators chose not to prosecute.
Reaction
Biden was furious with some parts of Hur’s report, specifically regarding his memory and mentions of his son Beau Biden’s passing. The report claimed the president didn’t remember when his son died. The president responded in remarks to reporters by saying, “How the h*ll dare he raise that,” adding the question was none of his business, and he didn’t need anyone reminding him of when his son died. Biden further insisted to reporters that his memory was “fine.” He also took issue with Hur’s jabs at his age and the reasons why he chose not to prosecute. The president said that while he is a “well-meaning…elderly man,” he also knows “what the h*ll [he’s] doing” and has spent the last three years getting the US “back on its feet.”
