(RepublicanPress.org) – Chicago native Steve Cortes is a conservative commentator and a former advisor to former President Donald Trump. He worked as a market strategist and a TV broadcaster, appearing on news channels like CNBC, Fox News, and CNN. Cortes is also a well-known advocate for the Hispanic community, his criticism of the mainstream media, speaker, and best-selling author. Most recently, he worked as an aide and spokesperson for the GOP primary candidate Governor Ron DeSantis super PAC.
On October 10, pro-DeSantis Never Back Down super PAC announced Cortes was stepping down from his position on the campaign. Spokesperson Erin Perrine explained that the commentator “launched his own show” and decided to step back from the DeSantis campaign in a professional capacity. However, Perrine said Cortes plans to support the Florida leader in a “personal capacity.”

However, some questioned whether or not Cortes still fully supported DeSantis for the GOP primary. Maggie Haberman from The New York Times said the political commentator has been praising Trump, and it has raised some eyebrows. In July, Cortes admitted the governor’s campaign was “way behind” the former president, and later on he said Trump’s nomination for the Republican party “seems inevitable.” He admitted DeSantis had an uphill battle.
A recent poll from Morning Consult shows DeSantis garnering only 12% of the vote, while Trump carries 61%. In fact, he’s closer to Vivek Ramaswamy’s 9% than he is to catching up with the former president.
According to Breitbart News, the DeSantis campaign is in trouble and running out of cash fast. Trump recently predicted the Florida governor will soon drop out of the race, although DeSantis hasn’t indicated he has any plans to do so.
As for Cortes, Haberman said he didn’t respond to her message asking about his status change on social media after he dropped Never Back Down from his profile.
