Recently, Erbert had a health scare that landed her on the operating table.

On December 7, Hough announced on Instagram that his wife “became disoriented” after a tour performance in Washington, DC. After a trip to the hospital, doctors said a blood vessel burst in her brain, causing a cranial hematoma that required an immediate craniectomy. His post said Erbert was in “stable condition,” and he thanked the doctors and first responders for taking such good care of her.
The next day, Hough posted again about his wife on social media, giving fans an update on her condition. He said she was on the “long road of recovery,” stating his awe of her strong will and resilience during the harrowing situation. Hough thanked his and her fans for their “support and love” through this difficult time. He said the “kindness” shown to them over the previous two days was “humbling,” “appreciated,” and “unfathomable.” He said his family hopes to show that same level of kindness to others going forward.
According to the Mayo Clinic, an intracranial hematoma can be deadly, and symptoms of the ailment sometimes don’t show up for weeks or longer after the initial bleed. The most common cause of the hematoma is a head injury. Craniotomies, like the one Erbert received, involve removing a section of the skull to remove the blood. Recovery can be lengthy, and a complete recovery might not be possible in some cases.
