Poll Shows Most Americans Think Cancel Culture Is a Threat

(RepublicanPress.org) – Cancel culture, the act of publicly shaming people for behaving politically incorrect, isn’t new. Recently, the practice has become a way of banishing individuals and brands from social media, news reports, and their jobs. It turns out citizens are seeing the threat for what it is.

A new public policy poll, released by the Center for Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll on March 1, found that 64% of Americans believe cancel culture presents a threat to freedom in the United States.

The poll found more Republicans considered cancel culture a threat than Democrats. Broken down, 80% of Republicans viewed the practice as a threat, compared to 48% of Democrats.

Mark Penn, the head of the poll, said that Americans are exhibiting “increased” concern about cancel culture’s growth. He warned Big Tech that the public views them as biased towards Democrats.

This year’s Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) appropriately went by the title “America Uncancelled”, and public figures like Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) spoke out against cancel culture. He followed up on March 1, calling on the House Judiciary Committee to conduct hearings on cancel culture. It looks like Congress is finally moving to do something about the problem. Whether Democrats will get on board isn’t clear.
