Police Recover Vehicle Used To Help Inmates Escape Jail

(RepublicanPress.org) – On October 16, the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) issued a BOLO report, advising fellow Georgians to be on the lookout for four inmates who escaped earlier that day from the county detention center. The advisory noted that an unknown person helped the inmates flee in a blue Dodge after they broke out from the jail through a broken dayroom window and a “cut fence.” The BCSO recently provided updates to their ongoing investigation, including the recovery of the vehicle used in the escape.

On October 20, the BCSO issued another statement announcing the recovery of the Blue Dodge Challenger used during the inmates’ daring escape. Members of the sheriff’s office Special Response Team (SRT) and Criminal Investigation Unit (CIU) traced the vehicle’s location in the parking lot of a Biomat USA Plasma Center located next to a Kroger in nearby Macon, Georgia.

The notice advised investigators with the SRT and CIU teams were able to discover the Dodge’s location thanks to leads obtained by unnamed sources. Sheriff David Davis stressed his appreciation of community involvement in the hunt for the inmates. He said investigators were following up on all leads and tips his office receives.

In a bizarre twist, three days later, the BCSO issued a notice advising that members of the US Marshal Service involved in the search for the inmates opened fire on a male suspect, Christian Demond Williams, during their investigation. They knocked on the door of an apartment, and the man opened fire on them after they advised him of their status as federal law enforcement officers.

Members of the BCSO SWAT team arrived on the scene. Another occupant of the apartment unit with them and marshals shortly after the team arrived at the scene. That individual said Williams was “down from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.” That individual, a 21-year-old murder suspect who disappeared in March, was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His involvement in the prisoners’ escape remains under investigation.
