(RepublicanPress.org) – The nation’s police officers don their uniforms 24/7, 365, to protect and serve their communities. They confront unimaginable risks daily. Sadly, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) officials announced an officer-involved shooting in the early morning hours of December 1.
Initial reports indicated that two police officers sustained injuries, but were in stable condition. A few hours later, IMPD Assistant Chief Chris Bailey posted an update advising that the two officers were resting and recovering from their injuries. He also called on the community to support the officers, their families, and fellow law enforcement officials. “They are the best,” he concluded.

Later in the day, the IMPD posted an advisory detailing the incident. The incident began at about 1:15 a.m. when the two police officers encountered an individual standing in the middle of the street while responding to a disturbance call. That person, later identified as Deonta Williams, told the officers another person had been harassing him. The officers advised they would try to locate that person.
As they turned to walk away, Williams allegedly stabbed both officers, who then discharged their weapons and hit Williams two times.
Emergency rescue services personnel transported Williams to a nearby hospital. Law enforcement officials arrested him hours later after his discharge from the hospital.
Williams allegedly stabbed one police officer in the chest, and he stabbed the other in the neck. The officer with the neck injury remains hospitalized but in good condition. Hospital officials treated and released the other officer.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to the officer and their families.
