Police Investigate Case of Missing Woman

(RepublicanPress.org) – The family of a young Florida woman, Gabby Petito, is begging the nation for help finding her. Police and the FBI are currently searching for the 22-year-old, but so far they haven’t been able to find her. As each day passes, the situation becomes more concerning.

In late August, Petito lost contact with her family members while on a cross-country trip with her fiancé, Brian Laundrie. On September 1, he returned to his North Port, Florida without Petito or any explanation as to why she wasn’t with him. Her parents reported her missing on Saturday, September 11. They told police they lost contact with her on August 25 while she was in Jackson, Wyoming, near Grand Teton National Park.

North Port police detectives attempted to interview Laundrie, but he told them he had retained a lawyer who advised him not to answer any questions.

Laundrie’s attorney, Steven Bertolino, defended his advice in a statement. According to him, law enforcement officials immediately suspect a missing person’s “intimate partners” in cases like that. He said he believes it’s in his client’s best interest to take police officers up on the offer to “remain silent,” whether he had anything to do with Petito’s disappearance or not.

Florida police officers named Laundrie a “person of interest” in the case on Wednesday without further comment. As of September 17, Brian Laundrie has also disappeared.

The FBI is asking anyone with information about the young woman’s disappearance to call 1-800-CALLFBI (225-5324) or submit a tip online.
