Paris Government’s Ban Fails to Stop Freedom Protests

Paris Government Bans Freedom Protests in the Streets

( – A group of truck drivers protesting a vaccine mandate for truckers entering Canada from the US managed to shut down a major border crossing between Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan, for roughly a week. Members of the Freedom Convoy have called for an end to all mandates in Canada. That protest recently spread to the South of France, prompting Parisian officials to enact a ban on Freedom Protests in Paris.

Inspired by the Canadian protest, a group of motorists recently gathered in Southern France and started their own “freedom convoy” to protest French COVID-19 restrictions. On Thursday, February 10, law enforcement officers from Paris’ Préfecture de Police announced their intention deny the protesters entry into the city.

However, things didn’t turn out like they expected when the protesters arrived. France 24 reported that Freedom Convoy members managed to break through police barricades on Saturday.

Shortly after lunchtime, scuffles began breaking out between police officials and protesters. As a result, law enforcement officials ended up firing tear gas canisters at demonstrators as they advanced up Paris’ famous Champs-Élysées Avenue. They also stalled traffic around the Arc de Triomphe, the famous arch honoring those who fought and died during the French Revolution and the Napoleonic Wars.
