New Mexico Governor Caught Using Taxpayer Money for Booze

( – New Mexico’s Democratic Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham has remained a divisive figure in the state since assuming office with her pro-choice, pro-environment, anti-gun agenda. Recently, controversy erupted around her use of state funds in the wake of a news report detailing spending by her office from a taxpayer-supported discretionary fund.

On February 18, the Santa Fe New Mexican reported Grisham spent more than $13,000 on dry cleaning, groceries, and booze. A public records request revealed her office purchased multiple bottles of tequila, vodka, and wine along with single bottles of gin and whiskey.

State Republican leaders expressed outrage at the misuse of taxpayer money. House Minority Whip Rod Montoya (R) pointed out that state legislators made ends meet using their per diem allowances unlike Grisham, who “believes herself… more privileged” than anyone else in New Mexico.

Likewise, House Minority Leader Jim Townsend (R) accused her of “acting like she’s better than everyone else.” He added that her purchases were “unfortunate” and show Grisham’s disconnect with the people of New Mexico who are struggling.

Perhaps more disturbing is her close relationship with Joe Biden. According to New Mexico News source KRQE, The Associated Press reported over the summer that she was on his shortlist to serve as vice president. An article from Fox News indicated that she also turned down an offer to serve as Interior secretary in his administration.
