Mass Shooter's Name and Potential Motive Released

( – Mass shootings continue to plague the country. In some instances, law enforcement officials cannot determine a shooter’s motive, as was the case with the 2017 Las Vegas massacre. Law enforcement officials have a potential motive in mind behind the Colorado Springs mass shooting last Sunday, May 9.

Colorado Springs police officials identified the subject as Teodor Macias, 28, during a Tuesday press conference. The Denver Post reported that Macias methodically shot and killed six people at a birthday party before taking his own life. Police investigators believe Macias shot the victims because he was angry because he wasn’t invited to the party.

One of the victims, 28-year-old Sandra Ibarra-Perez, was his girlfriend. The remaining victims were all family members of Ibarra-Perez, ranging in age from 21 to 52 years.

Colorado Police Chief Vince Niski told reporters the root cause of “this horrendous act [was] domestic violence.” The suspect had exhibited control issues in the past and opened fire “when he wasn’t invited to a family gathering.”

If you are a victim of domestic violence or know someone who might be, you can go to the National Domestic Violence Hotline at or here for Spanish.
