Man Who Allegedly Killed Father Found Dead

(RepublicanPress.org) – In October, the New York Post reported that prosecutors indicted 34-year-old Brandon Labiner and charged him with first-degree murder and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence. According to reports, authorities believe the suspect — a suspended Florida attorney — stole $450,000 from his mother’s trust fund and then shot his father, Paul Labiner — killing him. However, Labiner will never make it to trial.

On November 15, police found the former Boca Raton lawyer dead in his jail cell earlier that morning. WPTV said the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office and the suspect’s attorney confirmed the news. A spokeswoman for the sheriff’s office, Teri Barbera, said it seemed that Labiner hanged himself. He had already pleaded guilty to the murder charge against him and was scheduled to appear before the court in West Palm Beach at the end of the month.

Details of his alleged crimes were shared by WPTV. In April, Labiner’s law license was suspended after his father filed a complaint with the bar following the alleged theft from his mother’s trust fund. The Post reported that Paul Labiner filed a civil lawsuit against his son in June, claiming he stole from the company and his work tanked the family firm.

Just one month later, police say the suspect shot his father in a parking garage attached to the law office the two previously shared. WPTV reported details from the man’s affidavit, stating the victim was found in a pool of blood, and there were five spent .9mm casings and four other live bullets in the vicinity. Video evidence showing a man arriving on a bike and a subsequent scuffle and evidence found at the scene of the crime led detectives to the suspect — Brandon Labiner.

The defendant was then indicted in October, and the Florida Supreme Court revoked the suspect’s bar credentials at the end of that month. There was no indication from the reporting that Labiner was on any kind of suicide watch while in custody.
