Lawmaker Reveals Son Was Arrested After Deputy's Death

(RepublicanPress.org) – Senator Kevin Cramer (R-ND) served three terms in the House of Representatives before moving to the upper chamber in 2018. According to his website, the senator is the fourth Republican to hold that particular Senate seat during his lifetime. Cramer and his wife, Kris, have five children — Isaac, who passed away several years ago, Ian, Rachel, Annie, and Abel. Recently, Ian had a run-in with police that ended in tragedy.

On December 6, Senator Cramer released a statement announcing that his 42-year-old son was involved in a vehicle police chase, resulting in the death of an officer. The lawmaker said Ian “suffers from serious mental disorders,” which cause “paranoia and hallucinations.” On the day in question, the senator’s son told his mother he wanted to go to his brother, who died in 2018. So, Kris Cramer drove him to the Sanford Health emergency room. But when she got out of the car, Ian Cramer slid over to the driver’s side and took off.

According to the New York Post, the younger Cramer hit a parked police car on the side of the road during the chase. Unfortunately, on the other side of that car was a police officer getting ready to deploy a device that would deflate the suspect’s tires. When Ian Cramer hit the car, it hit the officer, killing him.

After the accident, the police took the driver into custody, transporting him to a local medical center before taking him to the McLean County Detention Center in Washburn.

Senator Cramer said in his statement that he was traveling to be with his family. He sent prayers to the family of the fallen hero and other police officers who put their lives on the line every day to help others. He also asked for healing for his son. The legislator’s son is reportedly facing manslaughter charges.
