Kamala Harris Dodges Questions About School Reopenings

(RepublicanPress.org) – Kamala Harris spoke with NBC “Today” host Savannah Guthrie on February 17. Guthrie brought up the matter of opening schools back up, pointing out the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) tied the re-openings directly to the rate of coronavirus infection in the community. If schools are forced to adhere to those guidelines, roughly 90% of them would not be eligible to reopen.

Guthrie asked if it was a mistake for the CDC to connect schools to coronavirus rates, and Harris dodged the question entirely by focusing on the progress the country is seeing with COVID-19 protection measures and vaccinations. “We all want the schools to reopen,” she said.

When asked the same question again, she said that the CDC’s recommendations are exactly that: “recommendations.” She also discussed the current goal of the White House, which is to get as many kids K-8 back to school five days a week as possible within the first 100 days of office.

Guthrie concluded the discussion on school re-openings by asking Harris if it was safe for teachers to go back to school, even if they weren’t vaccinated. Harris avoided the question again, instead insisting that getting teachers vaccines is a “priority.” After asking the question three times without getting an answer, Guthrie moved on.
