(RepublicanPress.org) – On July 15 at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, former President Donald Trump announced his running mate pick as Senator JD Vance (R-OH). The lawmaker is serving his first term as senator, wrote a best-selling book, and used to be a venture capitalist and many were wondering what he added to the ticket.
More than a week after the pick, CNN data analyst Harry Enten said Vance was “making history in the completely wrong way.” He said after the convention, when the vice presidential pick is typically announced, their average popularity rating increases by an average of 19 points. However, Enten said the senator’s numbers went “underwater” to a net negative favorability rating — negative six. The analyst concluded that Vance was only “dragging Trump down,” prompting Erin Burnett on “OutFront” to ask what benefits Trump is getting from the VP pick.
Former Republican adviser Mark McKinnon talked about a joke that the Ohio senator made during a recent rally in his home state. The advisor called it “cringe,” adding that he also didn’t see where Vance added anything to the Trump ticket. McKinnon said instead of expanding it, the GOP VP pick actually “contracts” it, making digs against Vice President Kamala Harris — the new presumptive Democratic nominee.
However, the former president said Vance was “doing really well,” stating he would have picked the senator regardless of who he was running against in November. After President Joe Biden announced he was dropping out of the race and Harris emerged, rumors swirled about whether Trump regretted his pick for a running mate. The former president’s communications director, Steven Cheung, squashed the speculation, stating that “Trump is thrilled” about his choice for VP.
Given Trump’s and Cheung’s statements, it appears that Vance will remain on the ticket for November. Time will tell if his numbers turn around to boost the GOP ticket.
