Iran Holds Military Exercise Amid Nuclear Deal Tensions

( – President Donald Trump announced America’s withdrawal from the Iran nuclear deal on May 8, 2018. Originally brokered by the administration of Barack Obama and Joe Biden, Iran sees an opportunity to re-engage its nuclear program post-inauguration, but first they are trying to intimidate the US.

Biden indicated his interest in re-entering the deal while on the campaign trail for the 2020 presidential election. According to AP News, Iran has recently taken aggressive measures to pressure Biden to reverse course from Trump’s pro-America strategy.

For instance, Iran’s Navy inaugurated its largest military vessel and conducted a two-day short-range missile drill in the Gulf of Oman on Wednesday, January 13, 2021. Then, on January 15, Tehran followed up with a ballistic missile drill that resembled its 2019 attacks on Saudi Arabia.

Most recently, Iran kicked off a ground forces exercise alongside the coastline of the Gulf of Oman on January 19. The timing of these exercises should come as no surprise. Sadly, it appears Iran’s efforts may already be paying off. Breitbart News recently reported that the Biden transition team has already begun talks with Iran about returning to the 2015 nuclear deal.
