Horrifying Attack Reported in Pakistan

(RepublicanPress.org) – In February, extremists created an offshoot of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) called Tehreek-i-Jihad Pakistan (TJP). According to the Times of India, the new group has already unleashed about 12 terrorist attacks in the region. The outlet said TJP is especially dangerous because it focuses its attacks on the military. Recently, the new organization claimed responsibility for yet another deadly blitz.

On December 12, the Associated Press reported that a suicide bomber drove his vehicle to a police station’s main gate in Pakistan and detonated the bombs within, killing 23 troops and wounding 32 others. The attack also caused part of the building to collapse and damaged buildings nearby. But the barrage didn’t end with the suicide bomber.

The TJP also had six other attackers on the scene actively firing on the station. Police fired back, eventually killing all six suspects. That back and forth reportedly lasted for hours. Local police officer Kamal Khan suggested the number of deaths could rise, as some of the wounded police officers were critically wounded.

Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), which speaks for the Pakistan Armed Forces, reported that 27 terrorists were “sent to h*ll” during multiple operations. The announcement said the terrorists were involved in several activities against security forces and were responsible for killing innocent people. After the recent attack on the police station in Daraban, ISPR said the military is conducting “sanitization operations” to rid the area of terrorists.

Pakistani President Arif Alvi released a statement about the tragedy. According to the New York Post, he promised the fallen’s “sacrifices would not go to waste.” He also gave his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. Alvi encouraged his forces to stay strong, even in the face of tragedy.

Insurgents in the area have reportedly stepped up their terrorist activities since the Taliban took over Afghanistan in 2021. Pakistan borders that country to the south.
