(RepublicanPress.org) – Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton got her first introduction to the political world by working on a subcommittee for US Senator Walter Mondale in 1971. Ever since, Clinton has been largely in the public eye ever since as first lady, senator, secretary of state, and presidential nominee. She recently wrote an article, in part, about Vice President Kamala Harris.
On July 23, in her opinion piece for The New York Times, Clinton admitted she was unable to break the “highest” and “hardest glass ceiling” with a presidential win, a fact that “still pains [her]. But Clinton indicated that her bids did accomplish something, she herself paved the way for Harris because she “made it seem normal to have a woman at the top of the ticket.”
Clinton’s piece also came with an acknowledgment that the veep would face not only sexism but possibly racism as well throughout her less than four-month campaign stint. The former politician said she knew “a thing or two” about the struggles women candidates face, stating she’s been called every name in the book.
Clinton talked about how she won the popular vote in 2016 by three million votes but still lost to former President Donald Trump. In fact, much of her piece was spent speaking badly of Trump himself and his policies. Clinton admitted that Harris had only a short time to convince Democrats to vote for her in November, stating that the VP’s previous accomplishments in public service might help her along. She then took the opportunity to blast the previous administration while pumping up the current one, roping Harris and President Joe Biden together.
While other women have run for president in the United States, the former secretary of state was the first to become a major party nominee. Harris, if she wins the support of her party, will become the second but the first Black and Asian woman to hold the title in the US.
