Gov Polis Blasts Trump During CNN Interview

(RepublicanPress.org) – The dynamics of the presidential campaign radically shifted on July 21, when Joe Biden announced his decision to drop out of the race. By the following evening, Kamala Harris had picked up enough support from Democratic delegates to replace him as the party’s nominee. Governor Jared Polis (D-CO) appeared to present a preview of coming attractions in the race during a recent interview with CNN host Dana Bash.

Bash started the discussion by noting that “24 hours ago” the presidential race “was a rematch between two old white men,” now everything has shifted. She asked Polis what Democrats needed to do to adjust to the shift in candidates.

Polis said the party needed to do something to shake up the election, “to mix it up, and we got it.” He noted that Democrats now had a “vibrant, exciting, experienced young candidate” with a vision for the country’s future to share with voters.

The governor returned to the theme of candidates’ age later in the interview after discussing some of the dynamics of the race with Harris as the Democrats’ presumptive nominee. Polis said, “The other side has a nominee [Trump] that can barely get a sentence out. He is approaching 80.” Polis also claimed that former President Donald Trump’s campaign “brings us back to the past,” while Harris represents “the future of the country.”

Polis’ remarks about the former president’s age likely foreshadow much of the thrust of the Democratic Party’s upcoming strategy to defeat Trump in November. To a certain extent, Trump’s campaign has to bear some responsibility for this shift.

Team MAGA has been criticizing Biden’s age for years, laying the groundwork for their strategy to prevent the president from earning a second term. With Biden out of the race, Trump has become the oldest party nominee in history — a fact he can’t outrun.

For the time being, the Trump campaign and the Republican Party at large appear to be testing various strategies to undermine Harris’ campaign to see what works. They have tethered her to Biden’s policies, particularly those dealing with government spending and the border. A few Republican lawmakers have suggested that Harris is a DEI candidate, referencing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
