GOP Votes 84 to 14 To Approve Trump Policies Ahead of Convention

(RepublicanPress.org) – The Republican platform adopted in 2016 remained unchanged for eight years. The 58-page document included the GOP’s stance on abortion, supporting a national ban at 20 weeks, and same-sex marriage, calling for the overturning of Obergefell v. Hodges. Recently, the platform was rewritten, and both of those subjects drastically changed or were missing altogether.

On July 8, in a closed-door meeting in Wisconsin, Republican National Committee (RNC) members tentatively adopted a new platform for the GOP by a vote of 84 to 14. The new agenda is entitled, “2024 GOP Platform Make America Great Again!” The only mention of abortion in the shortened 16-page document states the opposition to “late-term abortion” and the support of mothers, prenatal care, access to birth control, and IVF.

While the 2016 GOP platform mentions that marriage should only be between one man and one woman and that same-sex marriage should be overturned, the 2024 version doesn’t mention either stance at all. The only mention of marriage is a blip stating that “Republicans will promote a culture that values the sanctity of marriage.”

Republican National Committee member Gail Ruzicka from Utah seemed gobsmacked by the move, declaring that pro-Trump loyalists “rolled” the previous platform without debate or discussion. She said that has never happened before. Typically, there are talks, debates, and proposed amendments that all take place before an agenda is adopted.

Ruzicka seemed confused about why the RNC chose to draft and vote on the platform the way they did. She said during an interview that she wanted to see pro-life language in the agenda, at the very least.

RNC co-chair Lara Trump confirmed that the new platform is former President Donald Trump’s platform. Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Whatley said those who voted on the platform “feel very, very good” about it. RNC platform committee member Kevin Marino Cabera said the “easy to read” document shows a “unified party behind” Trump.
