GOP Governor Wants Biden to Address Border Issues in Arizona

GOP Governor Calls on Biden to Take Action

( – During the 2020 campaign, Joe Biden promised to blow up President Donald Trump’s immigration policies – and that’s exactly what he did. On his first day as president, he halted construction on the border wall and ended several other programs addressing immigrant issues. Now, several border states face mounting issues surrounding migrants, prompting Arizona’s Republican governor to call on Biden to take action.

On Tuesday, December 7, Gov. Doug Ducey (R) traveled to Yuma to meet with law enforcement and discuss what steps to take in the wake of the mounting crisis along Arizona’s border with Mexico. He called on Biden to “do something… anything” during a press conference with local reporters. Ducey wants Biden to help provide a federal solution to the problem.

Ducey told reporters he would deploy National Guard troops to help US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents secure the border. He also said he would send various assets to the region, including trucks, all-terrain vehicles, and a light-duty helicopter to fill the leadership void he believes has been left by Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to a Fox News report, Gov. Ducey noted that although the recent return to enforcement of Trump’s Remain in Mexico program was helping the situation in Texas, it also caused more migrants to head to Arizona.

As a sad footnote to this story, the high number of border crossers prompted Mayor Douglas Nicholls to declare an emergency in Yuma this week.
