GOP Governor Pushes Support for Police Across the US

( – Democrats like Representatives Ilhan Omar (D-MN) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) have spent the better part of a year calling for the defunding of the nation’s law enforcement departments and agencies. On the flip-side, Maryland’s Republican Gov. Larry Hogan stepped up and campaigned to put roughly $150 million into his state’s police departments and victims’ compensation programs. But that’s not all — he’s also helping out in other states.

On Friday, October 22, he gave the keynote speech at a fundraiser for Virginia’s Republican nominee for attorney general, Jason Miyares. Hogan addressed the current trend to “unfairly” criticize police officers, adding that all too often, they don’t get the “appreciation” or “respect” they so richly deserve.

Hogan explained the nation’s brave men and women in blue need to know “they have the support of their leaders,” and that’s where Jason Miyares plays a role. According to the governor, Miyares’ election would send a signal to Virginia law enforcement officials that the Attorney General’s office “has their backs,” adding that Virginia’s citizens would “be safer.”

According to Fox News, the governor plans to take his pro-police message nationwide as part of an effort to refund police departments in the wake of rising crime rates.
