Former Doctor Who Faced Serious Allegations Is Found Dead

( – In June 2019, George Tyndall, a former University of Southern California gynecologist, was arrested for the alleged sexual assault of 16 women during their annual exams between 2009 and 2016. At the time, Los Angeles Police Department Chief Michael Moore said more charges were likely on the way. His officers had worked on the case for about a year and interviewed more than 350 women in 16 states to gather information about the doctor’s background. Over time, his presumed victim number rose into the hundreds, spanning a much longer timeframe. However, he would never stand trial.

On October 5, the 76-year-old defendant’s lawyer confirmed he was found dead in his Los Angeles home. Tyndall was free on bond pending his trial. According to The Associated Press, the man’s close friend wasn’t able to make contact with the doctor, so she traveled to his house and found him lying dead in his bed. His attorney, Leonard Levine, said there were no signs of “foul play or suicide” and his client was due in court soon to set a trial date. However, he said Tyndall never wavered from his claim that he was innocent of all charges.

The former gynecologist faced 27 felonies — a combination of sexual penetration of an unconscious person and sexual battery. He pleaded not guilty in August.

Reports said the doctor was originally placed on leave from the job he had kept for three decades because a nurse at the facility said she never saw Tyndall wash his hands before or after seeing patients. Plus, a thorough cleaning of his office, while he was on vacation, revealed photos of his patients in a locked cabinet.

Some of the victims claimed that Tyndall paid the university a sum of money to keep quiet about the whole thing, prompting a lawsuit against the school, which was settled for over $1.1 billion.
