Fetterman Calls Out Pro-Palestine Supporters, Telling Them They Are Doing Nothing

(RepublicanPress.org) – Nationwide, pro-Palestine/anti-Israel protests have taken over several college campuses over the last several weeks. University officials recently sought help to restore order from local law enforcement officials. Likewise, House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) called on President Joe Biden to send National Guard troops to disperse the unruly and sometimes violent crowds. Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) recently called out the pro-Palestine supporters, telling them they weren’t accomplishing anything.

CBS News’ “Face the Nation” aired an interview with Fetterman on May 5. Host Margaret Brennan began by discussing the Pennsylvania senator’s ongoing criticism of the demonstrations. She cited his recent observation that while the concept of staging protests exemplifies “a great American value,” he did not think “living in a pup tent for Hamas” was doing anything to assuage the situation in Gaza.

Brennan asked Fetterman if he thought displaying the Palestinian flag was anti-Semitic. “I don’t think that,” Fetterman responded, adding that he would say “these kinds of protests haven’t been helpful.”

Fetterman explained that he found it ironic that the student protests were “actually working against peace in the Middle East,” considering they weren’t “actually protesting for a cease-fire.” He pointed out that Israel recently presented a “very valid” offer to end the violence, but so far, Hamas has “refused to take that on.”

Continuing, Fetterman drove that point home by suggesting that if students want to protest, why not demand that Hamas agree to a cease-fire? According to him, were the Sunni Islamist group to take up Israel on its offer, that would “end” all of the chaos and trauma occurring in Gaza between Hamas and the Israel Defense Forces.

Brennan followed up by asking Fetterman if they had a problem with protesters staging demonstrations to influence Biden’s foreign policy. After some cross-talk, Fetterman said he thought it was “perfectly normal” to disagree with the president and stressed the importance of the upcoming presidential election.
