(RepublicanPress.org) – On July 21, President Joe Biden posted a letter to the nation stating that he was stepping out of the presidential race. While the US leader gave a cursory explanation as to why he was ending his campaign, Biden stated he would soon address the nation and give more details about his decision — and he did.
On July 24, the president spoke to America from behind the Resolute desk in the Oval Office to explain why he was no longer running for a second term. After he delivered his words, various doctors reacted to his affect and demeanor. Fox News medical contributor Dr. Marc Siegel said he was worried about what he described as Biden’s “lack of emotion.” In his opinion, the president “seem[ed] to lack conviction” at a time that should be “very emotional” for him.
The doctor, who only saw Biden on TV and never treated or examined him, attempted to assess a virtual diagnosis for the US leader. Siegel said the president “could be depressed” or “shocked” and that he felt “compassion for him.” Another doctor who also never examined Biden, Dr. Robert Lufkin, shared his observations as well. He said the president was reading from a teleprompter, a “less demanding” task than a question-and-answer format. Lufkin said in previous instances, he appeared “confused” and had “halting speech.”
Lufkin indicated that this address was different because of the teleprompter assist. Leaders often use teleprompters for speeches and rallies — they are akin to notecards regularly used by public speakers past and present. Board-certified neurologist Dr. Earnest Murray described Biden as “more rested and relaxed” during the address. He, too, has never examined the president.
Reactions to Biden’s speech from public figures and everyday Americans didn’t mention any lack of emotion from the president. Instead, they said he spoke with “profound compassion,” thanking Biden not only for his over 50 years of service to the United States but for his “sacrifice to preserve our democracy.”
