(RepublicanPress.org) – In September 2023, Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas announced the establishment of the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group. The team was made up of experts in the private sector to lend their thoughts about various issues facing the country. Newly obtained documents from the now-disbanded group reportedly show some startling information.
On June 21, America First Legal (AFL) reported it had previously obtained internal documents from the previous expert group through legal means. The documents allegedly suggested that a deep dive by researchers looking for “extremists and terrorism” might find indicators in the “military or religious” sectors of society.
Other portions of the documents state that “most of the Domestic Terrorism threat” stems from Trump supporters. The group reportedly referenced attacks against the “government and its institutions for the last six years” as proof of its assessment.
The AFL released the information as the second part of its “#DeepStateDiaries” series on social media. The Deep State is a conspiracy theory that an underground network of government officials are working with business elites to influence or control the federal government — an alleged behind-the-scenes puppet master.
The meeting notes also allegedly revealed the group wanted to encourage Americans to speak up if they saw something of concern — “people who go off the rails.” The team reportedly suggested a “nationwide campaign” to reach the local level.
Following the release, White House Deputy Press Secretary Andrew Bates told Fox News Digital that the White House does not believe Trump supporters, religious people, or military personnel pose a domestic threat to the US. He then referred the outlet to DHS for further information. However, the department didn’t respond to a request for comment.
The AFL previously reported that DHS disbanded the Homeland Intelligence Experts Group in order to avoid further litigation and agreed to give the association access to the group’s records.
