Dem Megadonor Will Not Endorse Kamala Harris

(RepublicanPress.org) – Joe Biden shocked the nation when he announced his decision to end his campaign for a second term. Within minutes, he endorsed Kamala Harris to replace him as the Democratic nominee. Within hours, she appeared to start gaining enough support from Democratic lawmakers to take over as the party’s standard bearer. It remains to be seen whether she can enjoy similar success regarding fundraising. However, a recent report paints a grim picture for Harris regarding megadonors.

Democratic megadonor John Morgan, the founder of the Florida-based law firm Morgan & Morgan, posted a statement on his X/Twitter account within minutes of Biden’s endorsement. He stated that the president’s support for Harris served as a “f*** you to all who pushed him out” of the race. He also warned supporters of the move to “be careful” about what they “wished for.”

To ensure his post received attention from news outlets, the Florida megadonor linked MSNBC host Joe Scarborough, The New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman, POLITICO columnist Jonathan Martin, NYT Washington reporter Katie Rogers, and Pulitzer Prize-winning op-ed columnist Maureen Dowd.

Roughly six hours later, Morgan commented on a post by ABC News investigative reporter Will Steakin advising that Morgan confirmed he wouldn’t fundraise for Harris if she became the Democratic Party’s nominee.

Morgan explained that he lacked the enthusiasm or ambition for a political appointment to ask his friends for money. “It’s others turn now,” he wrote, a reference to his years of hosting fundraising events for Democratic politicians like Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton.

Morgan also noted that donors holding $90 million “can release those funds.” He concluded his post by writing, “You can keep my million [dollars]. And good luck,” comments apparently aimed at the Harris campaign.

The following day, Florida NBC affiliate WESH reported that Morgan had suspended his campaign contributions due to the unpredictable nature of state politics this year. “Who knows what’s going to happen?” he said, adding that the US was in “uncharted territory” the country had “never seen before.”
