Chick-fil-A Launches Drone Delivery Service at Florida Restaurant

Chick-fil-A Launches Drone Delivery Service at Florida Location

( – Before the rise of companies like DoorDash, Uber Eats, and Grubhub took the US by storm, the most commonly delivered food to consumers’ doors was pizza. Then, food delivery companies made a whole array of restaurant foods available to arrive at the homes of hungry customers. Now, one fast food chain is changing the game once more, delivering their food via the friendly skies.

On November 13, Chick-fil-A announced it was trying out drone delivery at a location in Florida — Brandon/Valrico. The company made the announcement by posting a video on social media showing the delivery process. The food workers prepare the meal, which is then boxed up by an employee who loads it onto the drone. The aircraft flies off and lowers the meal at the delivery destination without even touching the ground.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, Chick-fil-A spokesperson Chelsea Lee said the service is in the “early stages of testing” in just a few restaurants. The only issue so far is the delivery distance. The drone can only travel within a 1.2-mile radius of the store, but Chick-fil-A expects to increase that distance to 2 miles “soon.”

This isn’t the first drone service launched in the area. The company partnering with the fast food restaurant to make the service possible, DroneUp, also teamed up with a Tampa Walmart store in February to deliver all kinds of goods within a 10-mile radius. DroneUp was founded in Virginia Beach to combine experienced drone pilots with a unique technology to offer its aircraft services to businesses. The founders believe drone delivery is not only good for companies but also for people and the planet.

According to the New York Post, customers have been enthusiastic about Chick-fil-A’s drone delivery. One happy customer raved about how the food arrived quickly and was hot, while another said the service was “exciting.”
