Brazil Party Official Killed in Violent Incident

Political Official SHOT DEAD – He’s Gone

( – With Brazil’s presidential elections coming up in October, tensions are heating up, and the fight between the country’s political factions just got violent. On July 9, while enjoying a birthday party celebration in Foz do Iguaçu, Parana, Workers’ Party (PT) official Marcelo Arruda was shot and killed. Police said the suspect was yelling words of support for the current President Jair Bolsonaro during the assassination.

Before Arruda died, reports say he fired back, killing the shooter — Federal prison guard Jorge Jose da Rocha Guaranho.

The New York Post reported, PT National President Gleisi Hoffmann stated the guard celebrating his birth was “a victim of intolerance.” Bolsonaro, a conservative, has been running the country for years, but many people have a problem with his methods regarding the environment, the economy, and COVID-19. Amid the controversy, liberal and former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has thrown his hat in the ring for the upcoming election.

Recent polls put da Silva 23 points ahead of the incumbent, causing concern among supporters of the current president about the country’s future. The NY Post report suggested Bolsonaro has been critical of the country’s voting system recently. However, time will tell who comes out on top in upcoming elections.
