Bomb Squad Destroys Object Found at Embassy

(RepublicanPress.org) – Ever since the war between Israel and Hamas exploded in October 2023, tensions have been high in the region and around the world. Protestors supporting Israel and the Palestinians in Gaza have been all over the news in the subsequent months, and violence against Muslims and Jews is on the rise. In fact, a recent scare in Europe could’ve ended in more tragedy.

On January 31, The Times of Israel reported that an object was found inside the grounds of the Israeli Embassy, located in Stockholm, Sweden. The item was suspected of being an explosive, and the incident is being referred to as a terror attack attempt by Israel’s Ambassador to Sweden, Ziv Nevo Kulman. Embassy staff noticed the object and notified the police, who rushed to the scene.

The bomb squad reportedly took the item and safely detonated it in a secure location. Unnamed source accounts relayed by the daily Aftonbladet said the device was a hand grenade that was lobbed over the embassy fence, landing within a short distance of the building. Kulman thanked authorities for their quick response to the matter, adding that Israel would “not be intimidated by terror.”

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also spoke out after the “attempted attack,” calling the incident “very serious” and not only an attack on the embassy itself but Sweden as a whole. He said an investigation is underway to find out who was responsible for such an action. Kristersson said Jewish institutions around the country now have heightened security in place, as well as the Israeli Embassy in Stockholm. So far, there are no reports of any suspects in custody.

This isn’t the first sign of aggression toward Israeli embassies. In December 2023, The Times of Israel reported there was an explosion in New Delhi, India, that was close enough to shake the embassy there. After that incident, the country’s embassies around the world were put on high alert.
