Biden Nominee Supports Major Gun Ban

Biden Nominee Supports Major Gun Ban

( – Joe Biden campaigned for office on a promise to crack down on the nation’s gun laws. In early April, he announced “six initial actions” his administration would take to address gun violence. It appears Biden’s pick to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) has his sights on taking a wrecking ball to our Second Amendment right to bear arms.

That nominee, David Chipman, admitted to Sen. Ted Cruz (D-TX) that he supports a ban on AR-15s, America’s most popular rifle. He made that admission during his May 25 confirmation hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Never mind the fact he carried one himself when he served on an ATF SWAT team in the past.

Chipman also admitted he thought any person who already owned an AR-15 should be forced to register it with the federal government or face criminal prosecution. Making matters worse, he was unable to adequately define the term “assault weapon” when asked by Sen. Tom Cotton (R-AR). According to Chipman, it meant any weapon with a caliber above 0.22 with a removable ammunition magazine.

With the Senate split 50/50 and some Democrats serving in gun-friendly swing states, the chances are slim to none the Biden administration can force through any gun control measures right now.
