Arkansas Passes Tough Anti-Abortion Law

( – Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to appoint conservative justices to the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS) as part of a strategy to overturn Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 case legalizing abortion. He did his part by appointing three justices his first term, giving conservatives a six to three advantage. Arkansas also stepped up this week in support of the cause.

Republican Gov. Asa Hutchinson signed one of the nation’s most restrictive abortion measures into law on Tuesday, March 9. Senate Bill 6 (SB6) restricts abortion except to save the mother’s life. Unlike previous bills, SB6 doesn’t provide exceptions for rape or incest.

SB6 contradicts earlier “binding precedents” handed down by the Supreme Court, Hutchinson explained in a press release. The intent of the law is to create a pathway for the nation’s highest court to use to overturn current case law.

According to Associated Press News, At least 13 other state legislatures have proposed similar bans on abortion this year, hoping to force the Supreme Court to review Roe v. Wade now that there’s a strong conservative majority on the fence. We will keep you updated as events unfold.
