(RepublicanPress.org) – Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) serves District 14 in New York, which includes parts of the eastern Bronx and north-central Queens. Those sections are home to such neighborhoods as Elmhurst, Jackson Heights, Van Nest, Corona, and Throggs Neck. Recently, the New York Police Department (NYPD) conducted a raid in her district, and some say neighborhoods there look like a Third World country.
Early in the week, the NYPD took down an illegal open-air “flea market” operating in the 14th District at Jackson Heights. Reports say many of the sellers at the street shops are migrants who were blocking the sidewalks leading into a few key neighborhoods in Queens. They appeared to be selling second-hand items and clothes. Locals are fed up with the open markets selling their wares on the sidewalks, complaining it not only looks messy but it’s unsanitary. They also complain of prostitution in the area.
The NYPD reportedly ascended on the area, collecting and bagging merchandise from the illegal markets, but some speculate the rest of the sellers were tipped off ahead of the raid. The New York Post reported that thieves were alerted by spotters, causing many of them to scatter and evade police. NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell said this wasn’t the first time police have responded to the area, “whether it be brothels, illegal bikes, [or] vending now.”
Chell said police owe it to those who live in Queens to keep the area free of crime, but it will be a “continuing process.” No arrests were made. After the raid, The NY Post reported it returned to the scene to find many of the vendors hadn’t returned. The news source theorized that TV news crews scared them off, but a local resident said they would be back.
Fox News Digital reached out to Ocasio-Cortez’s office but didn’t receive a response.
