AOC and MTG Trade Blows During Fiery Garland Hearing

(RepublicanPress.org) – The House Oversight Committee convened on May 16 to mark up a resolution holding Attorney General Merrick Garland in contempt of Congress. The hearing quickly descended into chaos. Chairman James Comer (R-KY) had to call a recess to get the hearing back under control after Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) bumped heads with several of her Democratic colleagues.

Media outlets reported that Greene repeatedly interrupted Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the ranking committee member, during his opening statement. Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) eventually called on Comer to restore order and “get her under control.”

A few minutes later, Greene started talking about former President Donald Trump’s Manhattan trial. Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) interjected, asking the congresswoman, “Do you know what we are here for?”

Greene accused Crockett of not understanding the reason for the hearing, saying the Texas congresswoman’s “fake eyelashes [were] messing up what [she was] reading.”

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) quickly joined the fray, shouting, “That’s disgusting… absolutely unacceptable.” She also accused Greene of mocking “the physical appearance” of another committee member and moved to strike Greene’s words from the record.

Greene pushed back, asking AOC if her feelings were hurt. Ocasio-Cortez shot back, “Oh girl, baby girl,” adding, “Don’t even play.”

AOC continued to push her to have Greene’s comments removed from the proceedings’ record.

Comer stepped in and called for a recess to allow lawmakers to consider AOC’s motion to have Greene’s words “taken down,” a procedural move to allow a committee member to withdraw or clarify their words if they are deemed out of order.

Fox News reported that AOC could be overheard telling other committee members, “No way is that being allowed… not today.” She also said Greene needed to give a genuine apology for her remark, not a “swarmy” one. “It needs to be sincere,” she concluded.

Greene eventually agreed to have her remarks stricken from the record but refused to apologize. She also launched a final jab at AOC by insulting her intelligence. Ocasio-Cortez moved to have those words stricken from the record.
