US Actor Cited After Being Accused of Shoplifting

(RepublicanPress.org) – Although many of those in Hollywood appear to live a charmed life, that doesn’t mean they exist outside the “long arm of the law.” For instance, film actress Wynona Ryder received three years probation, restitution, fines, and hundreds of hours of community service after a jury convicted her on two felony counts of shoplifting from Beverly Hills’ Saks Fifth Avenue. Police officers recently cited another Hollywood figure for stealing merchandise from another California store.

On October 26, PEOPLE reported that law enforcement officials briefly detained Adam Wylie at a Burbank, California, Target retail store earlier that month. His crime? The retailer’s loss prevention officers observed the actor selecting products from the store’s health and beauty department.

However, security officers claimed Wylie didn’t scan all the items in his cart at the self-check-out station. Loss prevention officers reportedly confronted him shortly after he exited the store.

PEOPLE spoke to officials with the Burbank Police Department, who confirmed that officers arrived on the scene at the request of Target security officials. Store personnel accused him of stealing items totaling $108.05. Police officers briefly detained Wylie but ultimately cited him for petty theft and let him go.

Wylie rose to fame in the 1990s television drama “Picket Fences.” He also starred in “Gilmore Girls.” In 1997, he starred in The Disney Channel film, “Under Wraps.” In the last few years, he had several short-term roles on television series. He also performed in theaters as recently as the 2008 production of Mel Brooks’ musical comedy “The Producers.”

According to a report from The New York Post, many people were quick to take to social media demanding answers about why he would shoplift.
