(RepublicanPress.org) – The Defense Department established the All-domain Anomaly Resolution Office (AARO) in July 2022 to “synchronize efforts” across federal agencies and departments to “detect, identify, and attribute” unidentified anomalous phenomena (UAP), formerly known as unidentified flying objects. The Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and Security Ronald Moultrie appointed adjunct physics professor Dr. Sean Kirkpatrick, Ph.D., to head the new agency. The AARO chief recently announced his decision to step down from that position.
On November 7, POLITICO published an interview with Kirkpatrick to discuss his plan to leave his position in December after roughly 18 months on the job. He said he deferred his retirement from federal service to take over as AARO’s first director. He previously served as the chief scientist at the Defense Intelligence Agency’s Missile & Space Center.

Noting that he had accomplished everything he set out to do with the AARO, Kirkpatrick told POLITICO that he was “ready to move on” to other projects. He indicated that he delayed his departure for a few weeks to complete essential tasks, like finishing the first volume of a historical review of UAP.
Kirkpatrick confirmed that he had concerns regarding the origins of UAP. He told the news outlet that “the best thing” that could come from his limited time left with the new agency would be to “prove that there are aliens,” a curious claim until one considers the reasoning behind that statement.
The head of the AARO explained that there are only two possible explanations for the existence of UAP — It’s the work of aliens, or it’s evidence of “other [nations] doing stuff in our backyard.”
“That’s not good,” Kirkpatrick stated, indicating that he preferred the idea of sentient beings from other planets developing advanced aerospace technology over the possibility that an adversarial nation had unlocked those secrets.
The Pentagon slated Tim Phillips, Kirkpatrick’s deputy, to head the AARO in an acting role until officials hire a permanent replacement.
