(RepublicanPress.org) – Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft (R) is running for governor, leaving his position open this November. Valentina Gomez is a 24-year-old Colombian-born woman running for the position. While her campaign website outlines her missions of election integrity and stimulating economic growth in Missouri, she has been drumming up controversy with some of her ads.
Gomez recently released a video showing her wearing a Kevlar vest and running through a predominantly LGBTQ neighborhood in St. Louis. During the ad, the GOP candidate stated that people in America “can be anything [they] want, so don’t be weak and gay.”
The caption over Gomez read, “Stay fu**king hard.” The video then switched to an image of the Missouri candidate holding a rifle to show her support for the Second Amendment. But this ad wasn’t the first time Gomez attracted controversial attention.
In February, Gomez posted another video on social media showing herself with a flamethrower and burning LGBTQ-inclusive books. The candidate exclaimed that when she is elected as secretary of state, she “will BURN all books” she claimed are “grooming, indoctrinating, and sexualizing our children.”
When her video was removed from multiple social media platforms, Gomez complained about censorship. She is a proud MAGA member and loyal supporter of former President Donald Trump. Her campaign director, Maicoll Gomez, told NBC News at the time that the message the candidate was trying to share was that it was okay to be gay, just not around kids. GOP candidate Gomez’s recent ad doesn’t seem to support that statement.
Responses to Gomez’s latest ad were swift online, with some calling her “pathetic” and others calling her “cringe.” Radio host John Shannon indicated she was weak for wearing a Kevlar vest during her “morning jog.” While she apparently had some supporters, the negative attacks far outweighed them.
The 24-year-old is also against transgender individuals and vaccines and erroneously believes the 2020 presidential election was stolen. She claims to be the “future of the Republican party.”
