(RepublicanPress.org) – The latest figures from the Migration Policy Institute and Pew Research Center show that approximately 10.5 to 11.2 million unauthorized immigrants live in the United States. Three states and the District of Columbia allow illegal aliens to vote in local elections. Judicial Watch recently revealed the content of some stunning “training for non-citizen voting” documents used by DC officials.
On May 13, Judicial Watch issued a press release detailing a 13-page PowerPoint presentation used by the DC Board of Elections’ Voter Education and Outreach Division during an April 10 virtual training event. The conservative activist group filed a Freedom of Information Act request for documents related to that event, including documents provided to participants, communications promoting the program, and materials presented during the one-day session.
The PowerPoint presentation discussed voter eligibility requirements for non-citizens, such as maintaining residency in DC for at least 30 days before an election and not claiming the right to vote in any US state, territory, or foreign country.
The slide show provided instructions for proving residence and registering to vote. It also included a sample of the District’s non-citizen voter registration application and a page devoted to frequently asked questions.
Additionally, the PowerPoint presentation advised non-citizens that they had the right to vote in elections for mayor, attorney general, DC Council members, the Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners, and Board of Education members.
The Council of the District of Columbia adopted the Local Resident Voting Rights Amendment Act of 2022 (Bill No. 24-300) in October 2022. Then, the mayor’s office reviewed the measure and transmitted it to Congress for review. Since DC isn’t a state, federal lawmakers must approve any legislation in the District.
The measure passed in the US House and Senate and went into effect in March 2023 as DC Law 24-242. However, a group of voters from the District filed a federal lawsuit seeking an injunction to prevent enforcement of the new measure. The court dismissed the challenge on March 20, 2024, paving the way for non-citizens to vote for the first time.
