(RepublicanPress.org) – The Republican National Committee plans to hold its 2024 convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 15. That is where the party is expected to officially announce former President Donald Trump as the GOP nominee for the ticket in November. So far, the former US leader has been reluctant to hint about who his running mate will be, but he seems to be zeroing in on a decision.
On May 1, Trump visited Wisconsin, where he said he would “probably” choose his running mate “not too much before” the convention in July. While the presumptive nominee wouldn’t commit to revealing who was on his shortlist for president, some names have been floating around as possibilities.
Some of the contenders seem to be Senators JD Vance (R-OH), Marco Rubio (R-FL), and Tim Scott (R-SC). North Dakota Governor Doug Burgum (R) is another possibility. New York Representative Elise Stefanik (R) is also rumored to be on the list.
South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem (R) was also thought to be on the shortlist until recently when she admitted to shooting her puppy and goat years ago. Trump’s first White House press secretary, Sean Spicer, said that admission “killed her chances” of becoming Trump’s VP pick. The former White House official said he didn’t understand why she would publicly admit to such a thing, especially since she was on Trump’s shortlist. He likened the admission to having a job applicant say they stole something from the office during an interview — “unprompted.”
Trump held a spring donor retreat this past weekend at Mar-a-Lago, where he hosted all of the prospects listed above. There was no announcement or hint as to who the former president would choose during the event, and his campaign said that any rumors about knowing who he would pick and when are just that — rumors. Trump’s team said nobody knows who will be his running mate except Trump himself.
