(RepublicanPress.org) – The Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital’s mission is to care for kids and young adults who identify as either non-binary, transgender, gender non-conforming, or genderqueer. The doctors there provide psychological, endocrinological, adolescent, and psychiatric care for patients. One whistleblower from the clinic recently appeared on Dr. Phil.
On April 18, former employee Jamie Reed told Dr. Phil that gender clinics for kids are “morally and medically appalling.” Reed is apparently queer and married to a transgender person, but said a number of issues at her previous clinic made her change her mind.
According to Reed, many patients contacted the clinic after their surgeries “begging to have body parts put back on.” She claimed that kids would walk into the clinic, say they were trans, and were greeted with, “Yep, you’re trans; what would you like?”
Dr. Phil asked Reed if she meant that 12 or 13-year-olds would tell the clinic they wanted to transition, and the doctors, with very few visits, would just agree and start to treat. Reed said youths who now identify as transgender have skyrocketed 10-fold and are mostly girls who want to be boys. She stated there were few “written protocols or guidelines” at the clinic to provide a standard of care.
The former employee said she was at the hospital from 2018 through 2022 and was in charge of patient intake and oversight. After she went public in early 2023, the Missouri attorney general launched an investigation into the matter. The results of that probe are unclear. Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) also sent a letter to the clinic demanding answers.
The Washington University Transgender Center at St. Louis Children’s Hospital states on its website that it does not prescribe puberty blockers or cross-sex hormones to minors for transitioning. The current services do not mention surgery but are centered around education and therapy. The hospital did not respond to Reed’s claims.
