(RepublicanPress.org) – A concerning report released by the Senate Intelligence Committee found that Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election. With the upcoming election in November approaching fast and the controversy surrounding the 2020 ballot, many are concerned about the possible influence foreign nations might have on the results. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (D) recently discussed the issue.
On March 28, Clinton spoke at Columbia University, where she and other US elected officials discussed the ease with which disinformation could spread this election season with the assistance of artificial intelligence (AI). After all, someone had already duped President Joe Biden’s voice to make it appear as though he was calling voters in New Hampshire and telling them not to vote in the primary.
The former secretary said she’s worried that people like Russian President Vladimir Putin will use AI to interfere in the upcoming elections in the US and in other countries. She said anyone who isn’t concerned about the possibility “is not paying attention.”
Clinton said the Russian president used 2016 technology to spread disinformation about her on social media during the election cycle, likely costing her the presidency that year. She said her campaign didn’t understand what was happening on the dark web well enough to combat it, and now the situation is even worse. AI is lightyears ahead of the technology eight years ago and is a real threat.
Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson (D) agreed stating the false information will now be “turbocharged through AI.” Former Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff took the issue one step further, suggesting that bad actors could use that technology to undermine the entire election system and spark “another January 6.”
The Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Security Agency recently released a risk assessment report about generative AI and the 2024 election cycle. It outlined possible malicious uses for AI and provided a plan to mitigate the dangers.
