Man Taken Into Custody Over 2 Decades After Wife's Death

(RepublicanPress.org) – In December 2001, Alabama mom Sharon Mills was reported missing by her husband, Dwight Mills. About a month later, authorities found the 49-year-old’s body in Holmes County, Florida. Police followed all available leads at the time but came up dry, and the case involving Mrs. Mills’ death went cold — until now.

On February 26, the Dothan Police Department announced that investigators looked at the cold case with “fresh eyes” and uncovered new information that led them to a suspect in the case — Mr. Mills. Investigators from the Dothan PD and members from the US Marshal Service Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested 69-year-old Mills for the abuse of a corpse and the murder of Sharon Mills.

The police explained that investigators periodically look at old cases for new clues, stating, “No murder case is ever closed.” Investigators continue to work to bring justice for the victims and closure for the families. The announcement didn’t give any details about Mrs. Mills’ murder or exactly what led police to have a closer look at her husband.

Sharon Mills’ daughter, Angel Faulk, spoke to the press after the arrest. She said the family has been waiting for this day for 22 years. The grieving daughter said her “mom was her best friend.” She encouraged other families waiting for answers to “never give up.”

According to CBS News, one of the breaks in the case came from Faulk, who recently discovered some devastating information that she shared with a non-profit organization that helps families affected by violent crime. Faulk and the group, Wiregrass Angel House, contacted the police with the information. The suspect is Angel Faulk’s stepfather — a resident of Dothan County.

Police stated that Mr. Mills is currently in custody on a bond of over $1.5 million. The Dothan PD asked if anyone had any further information about the case to contact the station.
