The Metropolitan Police Department for the District of Columbia issued a press release detailing the suspect’s criminal rampage, beginning with his assault on Gill. The statement didn’t identify the victim by name but reported that the suspect approached his car at approximately 5:45 p.m. Gill was located a few blocks from the White House near the intersection of 9th Street, NW, and K Street, NW. The suspect entered his car, shot him, and fled on foot.
The suspect attempted to carjack a vehicle near the intersection of 5th Street, NE, and K Street, NE, at approximately 7:05 p.m. Ten minutes later, he shot a man near the intersection of 3rd Street, NE, and N Street, NE. He took the victim’s car and fled the scene. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, where he later died from his injury.
Law enforcement officials recovered the vehicle in nearby Prince George’s County. The suspect carjacked two other cars there. He opened fire on a group of police officers at approximately 3:00 a.m. An unidentified officer shot and killed the suspect during that exchange.
Local CBS affiliate WUSA9 reported that Gill was picking up his wife from a local eatery when the suspect shot him. The network reported that a family spokesperson issued a statement lauding the former Trump official as “an amazing husband, father, friend and colleague.”
As of January 31, Gill remained hospitalized, fighting for his life in “grave condition,” according to the network.
