(RepublicanPress.org) – The country is still reeling in the aftermath of the July 13 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump. Several leading Republicans spoke out against the United States Secret Service (USSS) during the party’s 2024 national convention. The former president’s middle son, Eric Trump, recently joined the chorus of public figures responding to the incident and the aftermath.
On July 17, the former president’s son sat down for a live interview with Newsmax to discuss his father’s nomination and the strategy to defeat Democrats in November. The conversation turned to the assassination attempt on his father, and Trump told host Rob Schmitt that he was “infuriated” by the USSS’ response to the incident.
Despite acknowledging that he had nothing against the individual agents assigned to the rally that day, Eric Trump accused the USSS of experiencing “a massive breakdown” during the incident. He backed up that assertion by pointing out that the service’s director, Kimberly Cheatle, claimed that USSS couldn’t place shooters on the roof where the would-be assassins fired his shots due to a “three-degree pitch.” He noted that his daughter “could have scaled that roof in about two seconds,” concluding that this was “embarrassing.”
Those remarks were made following a July 16 ABC News interview with Cheatle. She told host Pierre Thomas that law enforcement officials weren’t placed on the roof used by the shooter due to safety considerations. She said, “That building in particular has a sloped roof at its highest point,” so a “decision was made to secure the building from inside.”
Donald Trump Jr., during a recent interview with Fox News, told host Sean Hannity that he knew plenty of USSS agents and “they’re not worried about a sloped roof.” He said some were lifelong friends and had no concerns regarding a roof’s pitch.
Don Jr. called the director’s claim “nonsense […] the dumbest excuse” and pointed out the presence of video showing USSS snipers perched on other sloped roofs during the assassination attempt.
