(RepublicanPress.org) – The Trump campaign, Republican lawmakers, and conservative pundits and websites are increasingly expressing concern about the integrity of the upcoming general elections in light of the allegations of widespread fraud perpetrated during the 2020 election cycle. For instance, a recent report indicated that welfare officials were issuing illegal migrants voter registration forms, raising serious alarms.
On June 14, the New York Post published an article providing exclusive details about this widespread practice. The report advised that every state but Arizona provided voter registration forms to individuals applying for welfare benefits at government agencies and their Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) offices. According to the NY Post, that practice includes giving the documents to everyone regardless of immigration status.
Arizona recently passed a measure outlawing the arbitrary distribution of state-level voter registration forms. Likewise, the House Administration Committee approved a measure in May to push back on the practice. If the bill passes, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act would require the states to obtain proof of citizenship from anyone registering to vote at a welfare agency office, DMV facility, or using the US Postal Service.
Several Republican lawmakers have spoken out against giving voter registration forms to illegal migrants and others ineligible to participate in national elections. Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) noted that it was “Incumbent upon Congress to implement greater enforcement measures that secure the voter registration process.”
Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) echoed that sentiment. The border state lawmaker stressed the importance of Republican-led efforts to “fight any chance of illegal voter registration” until Donald Trump gets back into office and initiates his promised mass deportations.
Ultimately, it’s up to Congress to take action to eliminate the practice of distributing voter registration forms at state government facilities. The National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) of 1993 requires the states to offer voter registration opportunities and distribute the application paperwork at DMVs and welfare agencies.
Ultimately, it will take congressional action to repeal the NVRA.
