Thousands Signing Christian Petition Demanding Justice Alito Step Down

(RepublicanPress.org) – Controversy has been surrounding the Supreme Court for years, with Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito currently in the limelight. Thomas’ scandals involve lavish gifts he received from Harlan Crow — a well-known and wealthy donor to the Republican Party. Alito’s controversy involves multiple flags flying at his homes and a secret recording putting his impartiality into question. A recent petition is calling for Alito to resign.

On June 12, a Christian organization — Faithful America — began gathering signatures to demand SCOTUS Justice Alito step down from his position. The sparks that led the group to make this move involved the justice’s own words, which were recently revealed in a secret recording. He said the US should return “to a place of godliness,” which flies in the face of the separation of church and state. While Faithful America is a Christian organization, it does not support Christian nationalism or white supremacy. In fact, the grassroots group was organized to oppose those extreme views.

Faithful America also had an issue with the two flags flown outside Alito’s residences. One was the “Appeal to Heaven” flag, which has become a symbol for remaking the “American government in Christian terms.” The other flag was the American flag flown upside down in the wake of the January 6 insurrection at the Capitol — an action the justice claimed was taken by his wife.

The petition said the members of the Christian group were “deeply disappointed” about Alito’s comments and controversial flag flying. The members believe the justice is “unfit to serve on our nation’s highest court” and demand his resignation. The group’s goal is to reach 15,000 signatures. As of June 16, the petition was signed by nearly 12,200 people.

Average polling reported on June 12 by FiveThirtyEight showed that only 34.6% of Americans support the Supreme Court, while the majority of the country does not — 55.1%.

Alito has denied any wrongdoing and appears to have no intention of stepping down.
