(RepublicanPress.org) – Filmmaker Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), captured some of the events at the nation’s capital on January 6, 2021, on film. HBO released an hour and 20 minutes of it in 2023 in a documentary titled “The Insurrectionist Next Door.”
In 2022, HBO released a documentary on Nancy Pelosi filmed by her daughter. Alexandra Pelosi provided some of that footage to the Democratic-led House Select Committee that investigated the “January 6 Attack on the Nation’s Capitol.”
House Administration Subcommittee on Oversight Chairman Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) sent a letter to HBO President and CEO David Zaslav in late May asking for any January 6 raw footage filmed by Alexandra Pelosi. On June 11, the Congressional panel’s website posted a press release announcing that it obtained the requested footage the previous day — and some of the video shows Pelosi blaming herself for some of the events surrounding that civil disturbance.
Footage Released Shows the Former Speaker Blaming Herself
On January 10, the Republican-led House Oversight Committee released a 41-second clip from the footage it received from HBO. The video shows Nancy Pelosi speaking with her then-chief of staff, Terri McCullough, from the backseat of a car while officials transferred them to the safety of Fort McNair until law enforcement cleared the rioters from the US Capitol Building.
“We have a responsibility,” Pelosi tells McCullough, adding that Congressional leaders didn’t have any accountability for what happened during the riot, “and we should have.”
“Should we call the Capitol Police?” she asked before quickly correcting herself and saying she meant the National Guard. “Why weren’t [they] there to begin with?” she remarked.
McCullough said that because law enforcement officials guarding the Capitol Building “thought that they had sufficient resources” available already.
“That’s not a question of how they had,” Pelosi shot back, adding that “They clearly didn’t know” the extent of what could happen while Congress certified the Electoral College Ballots.
The clip concluded with Pelosi appearing to admit that she was responsible for the tragic events that were still playing out as they fled to safety. “I take responsibility for not having [Capitol Hill security officials] prepare for more.”
The Committee on House Administration Chairman Speaks Out
Chairman Loudermilk slammed Pelosi for saying she took responsibility for the security failures on January 6, 2021. He also criticized her for “not having the National Guard at the Capitol.”
Loudermilk also noted that “after the dust settled” from the Capitol Building breach, Pelosi spent millions of taxpayer funds to finance “her January 6 Select Committee” to shift the blame for the January 6 incident “on President Trump.”
