(RepublicanPress.org) – It’s been 61 years since the assassination of John F. Kennedy, 23 years since the September 11 attacks, nearly five years since convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s death, and roughly three-and-a-half years since the Capitol Hill riot. Yet, officials haven’t released thousands of pages of documents regarding those significant historic events. Former President Donald Trump recently addressed that issue and vowed to release those documents if elected to a second term.
On June 2, Trump sat down for an interview with “Fox and Friends Weekend” hosts. Co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy told Trump that “Americans have lost a lot of trust in institutions” like the FBI and CIA and suggested that a way to rebuild public trust would be to declassify and release documents that “everyone is talking about.”
Campos-Duffy asked Trump whether he would declassify documents related to the 9/11 attacks. Trump said he would.
The Fox News host also asked if Trump would release the remaining JFK files. “Yeah,” he responded, adding, “I did a lot of it,” a reference to his late 2017 authorization of the release of 2,800 records.
Campos-Duffy asked about Epstein files. Trump said he was inclined to release fewer of the files associated with Epstein’s crime because he didn’t want to adversely “affect people’s lives” due to the “phony stuff” surrounding Epstein.
However, Trump confirmed that he would declassify materials related to Epstein’s death. “It would be interesting to find out what happened,” he explained, adding that it was a “weird situation […] the cameras didn’t happen to be working” in the detention facility when Epstein reportedly committed suicide.
Trump also volunteered that he would release documents related to the January 6, 2021, riot at the nation’s capital. He rhetorically asked, “What happened? How about the Unselect Committee?” referring to the congressional committee appointed by then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to investigate the events surrounding the incident.
The former president concluded his discussion about classified documents by mentioning the panel’s two Republicans — “Cheney and ‘crying Adam Kinzinger.'” Former Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) lost the 2022 Republican primary to a candidate endorsed by Trump, and Kinzinger (R-IL) decided not to seek another term amid massive backlash from other Republicans.
